In Sanssouci, you compete as a landscape architect to design a flower garden for the renowned Sanssouci Palace. Each player has a personal garden board divided into rows and columns—rows representing colors and columns representing nine different garden elements like rose gardens, vineyard terraces, labyrinths, fountains, wells, or pavilions. At the start, each column features one of your nobles at the top, and a shared supply board holds ten tiles depicting various garden elements placed on colored spaces matching those on the player boards. On your turn, you play one of two cards to determine which tile you can take from the supply. Your cards may specify a garden element or a color, and one special card allows you to select any tile if the requested element isn’t available. You must place the chosen tile on your board in the column that matches its garden element and the row that corresponds to the color from which you took the tile. If that space is already occupied, flip the tile to reveal a gardener and place it in any free space in the same row or column. After placing a tile, you can move one noble along a path of placed tiles, but only within the same column and down to a lower row, scoring points equal to the row’s value. The supply is then refilled and you draw a new card. After 18 rounds, the game ends. Bonus points are awarded for each completed row and column, and additional points depend on the positions of your nobles according to two order cards you received at the start, each linked to one of the nine garden columns. The player with the highest total score wins.
