Marvel: Age of Heroes is a strategic game where each player leads a pair of X-Men tasked with defeating villains and completing objectives. Your team gathers resources and power-ups before embarking on challenging missions featured in three distinct scenarios. Designed by Rodney Thompson, co-creator of Lords of Waterdeep, the game blends mutant worker placement with resource management. Success depends on developing your team’s skills, training mutants, and efficiently navigating the Institute and Mission phases. Asymmetric abilities, scenario-specific challenges, and unique scoring conditions add depth and replayability. Players’ heroes are represented by vibrant acrylic standees of iconic duos such as Wolverine & Jubilee, Jean Grey & Cyclops, and Forge & Storm. The art on cards and player boards evokes the telepathic perspective of Cerebro, enhancing the thematic experience. In the Institute Phase, heroes are assigned to locations like the Danger Room or Medical Bay to gain benefits. Action spaces affect Physical, Mental, and Willpower tracks, allow drawing or playing cards, or can alter turn order. Ally cards introduce additional opportunities. Instead of performing actions here, heroes may be sent to the X-Jet for missions. During the Mission Phase, teams face direct confrontations with villains or collaborate for stronger attacks. Missions take place on the Mission Board or at the Extraction Point, with different scenarios presenting threats including Sentinels, Magneto, and Apocalypse. The evolving Institute Deck shapes a rich narrative filled with X-Men characters and events available through a shared market. Players compete to recruit heroes that best fit their strategies. As the game progresses, characters evolve via special evolution cards granting new abilities and scoring options. Advanced play features unique starting resources and asymmetric team powers, ensuring variety and lasting appeal.
