Cuba Libre 4th Printing (engl.)

Beschreibung

Cuba Libre 4th Printing (engl.) is a strategy game for 1 to 4 players aged 14+ with a playing time of 180 minutes. Players experience the Cuban Revolution through the COIN system, managing factions like Castro’s 26 July Movement, Batista’s Government, and the Syndicate. The game features a deck of 48 events that bring 1950s Cuba to life with political and strategic challenges.

In December 1956, paroled rebel Fidel Castro returned to Cuba with just 12 men, lacking a political base. After an initial setback against government forces, he and his allies—including his brother Raúl and Che Guevara—gradually united various guerrilla groups by exploiting widespread opposition to dictator Fulgencio Batista y Zaldívar. Within two years, their efforts led to Castro’s successful takeover, which became a model for leftist insurgencies. Cuba Libre, the second volume in GMT Games’ COIN Series following Andean Abyss, invites 1 to 4 players to reenact the Cuban Revolution. Players take on the roles of Castro’s Marxist 26th of July Movement, which must expand from the Sierra Maestra mountains toward Havana, while anti-communist student groups, urban guerrillas, and ex-patriots work to destabilize the Batista regime without enabling a new dictatorship under Castro. Meanwhile, Batista’s government must counter these insurgencies while balancing the demands of its fragile U.S. alliance and the corrupt Syndicate’s interests. In the background, Meyer Lansky and the Syndicate bosses maneuver to preserve their Cuban criminal stronghold. This volume retains the innovative COIN system familiar to Andean Abyss players and supports solo or multiplayer games for up to four participants. With a shorter playtime than its predecessor, Cuba Libre introduces new strategic challenges set during the turbulent 1950s Cuba. A deck of 48 new event cards brings this historic struggle to life, offering a rich and dynamic experience for those interested in modern insurgencies and counterinsurgency tactics.
