Manage a champagne vineyard to produce the finest bubbly! At the end of the 17th century, a French Benedictine monk who oversaw the cellar of the Abbey of Hautvillers made a significant contribution to differentiating the wines of this region. This innovation enabled the production of top-quality wines, especially white wines made from black grape varieties. While Dom Pierre Pérignon initially viewed the sparkling characteristic of the wine as a flaw, the relentless pursuit of improving both quality and quantity paved the way for the appreciation and recognition of Champagne. During the 18th century, several "Champagne houses"—or Maisons—were established, bringing a new business dynamic to the region. These houses replaced small-scale farm and monastery production by leading the evolution of Champagne. By planting more vineyards or purchasing grapes from other producers, they mastered specialization. To promote their products, the houses hired sales representatives who brought samples of their Champagne to royal courts across Europe, helping the sparkling drink achieve widespread acclaim. Despite growth in production, improved quality, and increasing popularity, commerce in the 19th century did not boom spectacularly—hence, in Dom Pierre, the focus is more on gaining prestige than on simply earning money. Players take charge of one of the oldest Champagne houses, producing and selling wine across Europe and beyond to the Americas. They stimulate the local economy, increase employment, and establish their brand’s reputation. To succeed, players must manage a chain of actions starting in the vineyard. Continuous improvement, adapting to opponents’ moves, and optimal decision-making are essential to build the most prestigious Champagne house. The game mechanics involve moving a disc around the vineyard board in each round to perform actions that grow more powerful over time. Players plant vineyards, harvest grain, buy grapes from neighbors, produce wines in their cellar—some more valuable than others—assign their salesmen to market routes, allocate workers in vineyard and cellar, and acquire equipment to enhance production.
