Barcelona (engl.)

Beschreibung

Barcelona (engl.) is a strategy game for 1 to 4 players aged 14+ with a playing time of 60-90 minutes. Players take on the role of builders in 19th-century Barcelona, constructing buildings, streets, tram lines, and public services while competing to score the most points through city expansion and Modernisme projects.

In mid-19th century Barcelona, the city was the most densely populated in Europe. After the old city walls were finally demolished, Ildefons Cerdà, recognized as the pioneer of urban planning, introduced the "Eixample" plan—an urgently needed expansion that began construction in 1860. In Barcelona, you play as builders shaping this new district. Your goal is to develop buildings that accommodate citizens moving out of the old city. Alongside construction, you will create streets, lay tram lines, and establish public services. You may also choose to engage with Modernisme, a flourishing architectural and artistic style favored by the wealthy. The game unfolds over several rounds, each interrupted by three scoring phases and concluding with a final scoring. On your turn, you perform multiple actions, add new buildings to the main board during the building phase, and prepare for your next turn. Victory points are earned throughout the game and at the end from unlocked spaces on your player board and the Modernisme project tiles you acquire. The player with the most points emerges as the winner.
