Description

Inis 3rd Edition is a strategy game for 2 to 4 players aged 14+ with a playing time of 90 minutes. A strategic game inspired by Celtic history and mythology where players draft action cards, manage clans, and collect epic tales to fulfill victory conditions in leadership, land control, or religion. Success relies on timing, bluffing, and adapting to shifting power dynamics.

Inis is a strategy game steeped in Celtic history and mythology, where players compete to become the King of the Island by fulfilling one of three victory conditions:

  • Leadership: Control more clan figures than any other player in territories containing at least six opposing clans.
  • Land: Have your clans present in at least six different territories.
  • Religion: Establish your clans in territories that collectively contain at least six sanctuaries.
Each round begins with the Assembly, where players draft four action cards to plan their moves. Unused action cards do not carry over between rounds. Players may also use leader cards for territories where they were elected leaders during the Assembly, with these cards reallocated each round. Additionally, players collect "epic tales" cards that portray legendary Irish gods and heroes such as Cuchulainn, the Dagda, and Lugh, which provide powerful effects when played under the right conditions. Action cards offer a range of options, including adding or moving clans, building or exploring, and special abilities. Throughout the game, players earn deeds that lower the requirements for any of the victory conditions by one, making strategic timing and adaptability crucial. Success in Inis depends on careful card drafting, hand management, strategic bluffing—especially in knowing when to pass—good timing, and a keen understanding of the shifting balance of power. After an initial discovery game, players will be ready for a full, epic experience where the most deserving player is crowned king by the Assembly based on merit and wisdom.
