Based on the critically acclaimed video game, Total War: ROME – The Board Game lets up to four players take on the roles of the leaders of Rome, Carthage, Greece, and the Barbarian Tribes of Gallo-Germania. Players will expand their realms by conquering new lands, developing their faction, claiming territories, recruiting powerful armies, and engaging in intense battles. Additionally, they manage city building, taxation, espionage, uprisings, trade, and much more. Set in the Ancient World, the game spans the period from 400 BCE to 50 BCE and centers on the dominant powers of Europe striving to establish their empires and gain control over the Mediterranean region. Within less than three hours, players must carefully balance military might and economic strength as they compete to climb the victory point ladder. Rome stands as the preeminent ruler of the Ancient World, with an empire that endured more than 700 years from its republican beginnings to its imperial decline. Carthage, the gem of North Africa in the 3rd century BCE, challenged Rome’s power under Hannibal until its defeat in the Second Punic War (218–202 BCE). Greece, the intellectual heart of the Ancient World, rose to prominence under the leadership of Alexander the Great. The Barbarian Tribes consist of over fifty different groups, ranging from the Lusitanians in Spain, through the Averni of Gaul and the Brigantes of Britannia, to the Belgae and the Alamanii Germanic tribes, reaching eastward to the horse-riding Sarmatians.
