1848 Australia (engl.)

Beschreibung

1848: Australia is a semi-historical railroad game inspired by Francis Tresham's 1829. It incorporates historical elements wherever possible, while allowing history to be rewritten in other areas. The game introduces The Bank of England as a public company that issues loans and manages railroads in receivership. Players must also navigate the challenges posed by varying track gauges between states and make use of the special train, The Ghan. The game’s core mechanics are straightforward. Players build a network by placing yellow, green, brown, and grey tiles on the map, connecting stations through railway routes. Trains, represented by cards, simulate journeys between stations, generating income based on the number and importance of visited stations. This income benefits both the company and its shareholders. Throughout the game, players own six Private Companies and hold shares in eight Public Companies, as well as in the Bank of England. Shareholders control Public Companies, with the player holding the most shares acting as Director and making key decisions. Managing companies, investing in others, upgrading trains, and competing for routes forms the heart of the gameplay. At the end, players calculate the combined value of their shares and operational profits to determine their total wealth. The player with the greatest wealth wins.
