Beschreibung

Above & Below Haunted (engl.) is a family game for 2 to 4 players aged 8+ with a playing time of 60-120 minutes. Players build villages, recruit villagers, and explore haunted caves with new features like ghosts, boats, and adventure cards. This standalone sequel offers fresh strategies and a spooky new setting in the world of Arzium.

You and your family have lived in the marshlands for generations, but now your hometown is becoming crowded. To the west lies a group of villages surrounded by azure lakes, where flowing water has carved a labyrinth of watery caves, sinkholes, underground streams, and porous bedrock. Here, you see a chance for a fresh start—catching fish, living in stilt houses over the lake, and venturing into deep sinkholes to find rare ingredients and forgotten treasures. With your favorite fishing pole packed and the baby strapped to your back, you’re ready to begin a new life. If only you had known about the ghosts that haunt this place, you might have stayed put. Above and Below: Haunted is a standalone sequel to Above and Below, designed to celebrate the original’s tenth anniversary. Like its predecessor, players compete to build the best village by recruiting villagers, constructing buildings, and exploring the caves below ground. This edition introduces new stories set in the world of Arzium, expanding both its narrative and gameplay. The game features several new mechanics: buildings can become haunted by ghosts, represented by wooden ghost tokens, which reduce your reputation. You can perform a banish action to remove these ghosts, placing them on another player’s building to gain a reward. The caves now come in two varieties—normal and dangerous—with the latter requiring more lanterns but offering greater rewards, including pearls. Pearls are new tokens that represent your highest placed good at the end of the game. The game also introduces new key and star buildings, designed specifically for this edition to encourage fresh strategies. Additionally, players can acquire boat tokens, which can be used to modify die rolls or earn coins. Finally, the game includes 40 unique adventure cards that players earn as specific rewards for exploring the caves.
