With the cheerful peep of a whistle, the steady chuff of pistons, and the powerful clank of drivers, America’s first steam locomotive sets off along the steel rails of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in 1830. This strategic railroad game spans from the dawn of American railroads through the golden age of steam, where pioneering rail magnates connected the emerging United States with iron pathways, harnessing the vast potential of the nation’s heartland. Players take on the roles of railroad presidents and their wealthy investors, wagering that their investments will yield great returns. Baltimore & Ohio is not a game of luck, but a competitive contest of strategy, insight, and cunning. With your resources, will you prioritize expansion, technological innovation, or tapping into new markets? This modern classic captures the challenges faced by the empire-building capitalists who helped forge a superpower.
