Beschreibung

Barbarossa Army Group North 1941 2nd. Edition (engl.) is an expert game for 1 to 4 players aged 12+ with a playing time of 300 minutes. Players command Axis or Soviet forces in the 1941 Army Group North campaign, aiming to capture or defend Leningrad. The game features detailed operational scale with divisions, regiments, and air units, focusing on strategic breakthroughs and prolonged siege warfare.

On June 22nd, 1941, Army Group North, the smallest of the three German army groups, advances into the Baltic states with the objective of capturing Leningrad. Formerly the crown jewel of Czarist Russia, Leningrad is now the second most important city in the Soviet Union. It hosts key ordnance factories, including the massive Kirov Tank Works, which produces the bulk of the Soviet heavy KV-1 and KV-2 tanks. The fall of Leningrad would deprive the Soviets of a crucial population and industrial center and position the Germans advantageously for a northwest assault on Moscow.

Lacking sufficient Luftwaffe support and motorized forces, Army Group North is the only German group that fails to achieve a major encirclement during its campaign. The Soviets skillfully utilize the terrain and ruthlessly exploit the civilian population to construct a fortified line along the Luga River, delaying the German advance for a month. Ultimately, massive reinforcements from Army Group Center, including Luftwaffe and motorized units, enable a decisive breakthrough and push toward Leningrad itself. In a fierce battle in September, the Germans come just short of capturing the city as time runs out. With Operation Typhoon—the final offensive against Moscow—imminent, Army Group North must transfer nearly all its Luftwaffe and motorized forces elsewhere. Bereft of strike capability, the Germans dig in, and Leningrad survives only to endure a brutal 900-day siege.

Will you, as the Axis commander, succeed where the German High Command failed? Or, as the Soviet commander, can you repeat history by halting the Axis advance short of Leningrad?
