Bites (engl.)

Description

Bites is a strategy game for 2 to 5 players aged 10+ with a playing time of 20 minutes. Players move ants along a trail to collect food tokens whose value depends on collective movement strategies. Variable card decks alter scoring and special actions, creating a dynamic game of strategic timing and resource management without direct conflict.

Bites is a highly interactive game where players move ants along a trail to collect food tokens. The value of the collected food depends on how the ants are moved by all players, creating a dynamic environment of shared incentives without direct conflict.

During setup, a trail of food tokens is laid out, each matching the color of an ant. On their turn, players move any ant of their color to the next corresponding food on the trail, then collect a token directly in front of or behind that ant to save for scoring at the end. However, the exact worth of this food remains uncertain until the matching ant reaches the anthill at the trail’s end, encouraging players to cooperate or compete strategically by advancing some ants while delaying others.

Along the way, players can also collect chocolate and wine tokens. Chocolate can be used to trigger special actions, while wine offers opportunities for bonus points.

The rules vary each game through four decks of cards that are combined to give a unique experience every time. These decks are:

• Ant Hill: Determines whether food tokens gain more points if their matching ant reaches the hill first or last.
• Wine: Defines how wine tokens score points differently each game.
• Chocolate: Grants different special powers tied to the chocolate tokens.
• Variant: Adds a special rule to introduce an extra twist.

Players must adapt their strategies based on these variable rules and the actions of others, managing the cascading effects of their moves to collect the most valuable selection of food.
