The King has commissioned the construction of a magnificent Castle that will stand through the ages. Those who contribute to its building will be rewarded with riches, power, and lasting Renown. Your Guild is ready to take on this challenge. To succeed, you will need workers, clever tactics, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to expand your influence. CastleScape is a deck-building area-control game set in medieval times, where players represent one of four Guilds competing to shape the Castle for the King. Players build Walls to create Baileys, recruit members to extend their Guild’s influence, spend gold, carry out dubious deeds in the Back Alley, and complete Goals and Quests. Yet every action comes with a risk: accumulating Infamy and Corruption can trigger the King’s inspections, which will reduce your Guild’s Influence and resources. Starting with a simple deck of cards—featuring gold, recruits, walls, and some clumsy thieves—players expand outward from a single wall at the center of the board, always placing new walls adjacent to existing ones. When a Bailey is completed, players earn Renown points based on its size. The player with the greatest Influence over that Bailey claims these points. This shared building process creates high interaction and strategic depth, ensuring no two games are alike. The King’s inspections add an extra layer of challenge by removing Influence from the board depending on each Guild’s Infamy. This mechanic forces players to balance ambition with caution. CastleScape encourages diverse strategies with hidden objectives, a Castle layout that changes every game, and a Market offering both fixed and rotating cards to keep play fresh. Points are earned by building Baileys, acquiring cards, and completing goals, but excessive Corruption will cost valuable Renown. With its innovative blend of deck-building and area control, CastleScape offers deep strategy, dynamic player interaction, and nearly unlimited replayability for those who enjoy planning multiple turns ahead and adapting to evolving challenges.
