It introduces new units, Napoleonic Tactician cards to enhance leader roles, updated Command cards, and new mechanics like Garrison Markers and Grand Battery rules, enriching the Napoleonic battlefield experience.

Generals, Marshalls and Tacticians is the fifth expansion for GMT’s Commands & Colors Napoleonics system, introducing 18 historical battles that focus largely on the French campaign of 1813 against Russian, Austrian, and Prussian forces near Leipzig. This expansion adds several new units, including Russian Lieutenant Lancer Cavalry, Militia Lancer Cavalry, British Rocket Battery, and French Guard Horse Artillery. A key feature of this expansion is the deck of 50 Napoleonic Tactician cards, designed to deepen the role of leaders on the battlefield without increasing complexity or rule volume. These cards inject an element of suspense and strategic timing, representing leader actions, battlefield events, and special unit abilities. They can hinder the enemy, boost friendly units, or dramatically alter the battle’s course. The number of Tactician cards each player uses is indicated in scenario notes, with earlier scenarios referring to a Commander Tactician Rating Reference Card that rates each army’s leaders. In addition, the updated deck of 90 Napoleonic Command cards integrates smoothly with the new Tactician cards, featuring six new “Take Command” cards while remaining largely familiar to players. New mechanics include Garrison Markers, rules for forming and fighting with a Grand Battery, and revised Leader Casualty Check rules allowing leaders alone in a hex to be targeted by ranged attacks. This expansion broadens the tactical options and enhances command decisions in all Napoleonic scenarios.
