Space is much cuter than we imagined. Fluffy Frontier is a family game that takes you on a journey through space with adorable, fluffy animals. In the spirit of ION, the game’s mechanics are inspired by real scientific research, incorporating data from actual space experiments. The furry characters represent real animals that have been part of space missions—like Félicette, featured on the box cover, who was launched on October 18, 1963, as part of the French space program. Your mission is to keep the secret safe: humans must not discover that the Petsonauts are the real leaders of this expedition. While maintaining this disguise, you aim to complete your secret objective—finding alien supplies to smuggle back to the ship. Trade your discoveries with fellow players, compete to reach your goals first, and avoid being caught by those pesky hoomans. You play as one of the space agencies landing on Halley's Comet during its next close approach to Earth in 2061. Together, you have traveled there in a spaceship parked in orbit above the comet and carefully plan your experiments in advance to avoid human suspicion. Each agency competes to complete the most experiments by traveling to the comet's surface, collecting samples, and bringing them back to the station for study. But time is limited—the comet heats up as it nears the sun, releasing gas that makes surface operations impossible. You have five weeks to make your discoveries—use them wisely.
