Description

Genotype Reprint ist ein Kennerspiel für Personen ab einem nicht angegebenen Alter. Als Assistenten von Gregor Mendel sammeln die Spieler experimentelle Daten zu Erbsenschaften bei Erbsenpflanzen. Dabei steuern sie die Vererbung von Merkmalen und nutzen strategische Kontrolle und Ressourcenmanagement, um ihre Forschung voranzutreiben.

Gregor Mendel, the 19th-century Augustinian friar, is recognized as the father of modern genetics. In Genotype, you take on the role of his assistants, competing to gather experimental data on pea plants by controlling how key Traits—such as seed shape, flower color, stem color, and plant height—are inherited from parent plants. The visible characteristics of a pea plant (its Phenotype) are determined by its genetic composition (its Genotype). Understanding the relationship between Genotype and Phenotype, as well as the principles of genetic inheritance, is central to the gameplay in Genotype: A Mendelian Genetics Game. Players receive Pea Plant Cards that specify the Phenotype Traits they aim to produce and collect—like pink flowers or tall height—to score points. Each round begins with rolling dice that simulate plant breeding and may yield the Traits players need. Following the dice roll, players draft dice in turn to complete their Pea Plant Cards or to advance their Research. The traits emerging from the dice reflect the genetic combinations illustrated by Punnett Squares, where parent genes combine, one from each parent plant. By altering the genes of these parent plants, players influence the probability of obtaining desired Traits. Gameplay proceeds through three phases each round: Worker Placement, Dice Drafting, and Upgrades. During Worker Placement, players perform actions such as acquiring new Plant Cards, modifying the genes of parent plants, advancing in Research, staking Phenotype claims, obtaining new Tools, or positioning themselves advantageously for the upcoming Dice Draft. The Dice Draft involves several strategic choices. Players may secure the first pick of dice for a specific Trait type (e.g., plant height) or wait to select from any remaining dice after those initial choices. De Novo Mutation Dice introduce further tactical options by allowing players to change Traits on other dice or gain extra Research. In the Upgrades phase, players spend Research points to unlock improvements that enable them to manage more Plant Cards, draft additional dice each round, or recruit more Workers for the Worker Placement phase. Players score points by matching the results of the Dice Draft to their Pea Plant Cards. Bonus points can be earned if a player has placed a Phenotype marker that corresponds with completed cards. After five rounds, the player with the highest score wins.
