Gloomhaven (engl.)

Description

Gloomhaven (engl.) is a strategy game for 1 to 4 players aged 12+ with a playing time of 90 to 150 minutes. Players cooperate as adventurers in a persistent world, battling dungeons and evolving their characters through tactical card-driven combat and branching story decisions.

Gloomhaven is a Euro-inspired tactical combat game set in a persistent world marked by shifting motives. Players assume the roles of wandering adventurers, each with unique skills and personal reasons for exploring this dark corner of the world. Cooperation is essential as they clear out dangerous dungeons and forgotten ruins. Throughout the campaign, players gain experience and loot to enhance their abilities, uncover new locations, and shape a branching story influenced by their decisions. The game unfolds over multiple sessions, with players choosing their paths in a manner reminiscent of a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book. Combat is cooperative and involves battling automated monsters, using an innovative card system that determines the order of play and the actions available on each turn. On their turn, players select and play two cards from their hand. The number on the first card sets their initiative order, while each card offers a top and a bottom power. Players decide which powers to use from each card, balancing strategy and resource management. However, cards are lost permanently over time, and if the group takes too long to complete a scenario, they risk exhaustion and may be forced to retreat. This tension adds a layer of strategic depth to each session.
