Step up to the global stage and race in the Grand Prix, the latest auto racing game from Jeff & Carla Horger and GMT Games. Designed for 2 to 11 players, the game allows competitors to control either a single team with two cars or multiple teams, competing with different strategies to score points. Players can earn points in two ways: through individual car scoring, where only the top 10 positions score and first place yields the highest reward, or through team scoring, which depends on the combined placement of all team cars in a race. Unlike simple ovals or expansive super speedways, the Grand Prix tracks feature tight, challenging circuits that require finesse and skill to navigate and overtake. The game draws heavily on movement mechanics familiar from Thunder Alley, incorporating solo, line, pursuit, and lead movement classes, but with adjustments tailored to capture the essence of Formula 1 racing. Mastery involves learning how the courses and card interplay affect each track to optimize tactics. Safety car interventions are rare in Grand Prix, making pit strategy crucial. With a lower penalty threshold for wear, players will encounter more frequent pit stops. In addition to managing suspension, tire, and engine wear, aggressive drivers accumulate “close-call” tokens. These tokens don’t impact speed directly but build up until an event card triggers a penalty for the driver holding the most tokens. The game includes three Event Decks—hard tires, soft tires, and wet tires—each influencing the race dynamics uniquely. Hard tires produce slower, tighter racing with less speed and overtaking opportunities; soft tires encourage an all-out throttle approach; and wet tires introduce hazards like spinouts and increased contact, ramping up the challenge for all players. Grand Prix also brings four new tracks featuring unique challenges. All Grand Prix tracks are compatible with Thunder Alley, and vice versa, offering versatility and expanded gameplay options.
