Imperial Struggle 2nd Printing (engl.)

Beschreibung

In 1697, following a decade of war, Louis XIV of France—the Sun King—still harbored grand continental ambitions, while King William III of England felt more secure on his throne than ever before. With the Spanish succession crisis unresolved and the new century looming, both powers anticipated a turbulent future. What neither could foresee was the prolonged struggle that would last nearly a century—a Second Hundred Years' War marked by fierce rivalry across every sphere of influence. Imperial Struggle is a two-player game that reenacts the intense 18th-century competition between France and Britain. Starting in 1697, as the two nations await the Spanish king's heir, and concluding in 1789 with the fall of the Bastille, the game goes beyond military conflict. Players must also develop colonial wealth, navigate European diplomacy, and vie for dominance in politics, economics, and culture. Covering almost a century and four major wars, Imperial Struggle offers a deep historical experience while keeping complexity low. Designed to be played in a single evening, it builds on the legacy of Twilight Struggle by combining straightforward rules with a broad global scope. During peace turns, players invest in economic development, forge alliances, and leverage historical events through Event cards, carefully weighing their choices to advance themselves and hinder their opponent. War turns bring opportunities for conquest and prestige, though territorial gains remain uncertain until peace treaties are signed. By the end of the 18th century, will Britain maintain an empire where the sun never sets, or will France emerge as the guiding superpower envisioned by the Sun King or the republic championed by Lafayette? Imperial Struggle invites players to decide the fate of an era defined by ambition, conflict, and transformation.
