Journey to the Center of the Earth (engl.)

Description

Journey to the Center of the Earth (engl.) is a family game for 1 to 50 players aged 10+ with a playing time of 20 minutes. Players follow the journey of Professor Lidenbrock and his companions as they explore tunnels from a volcano entrance to the Earth's center, facing challenges like water management and volcanic eruptions, with the option to seek help from the novel's protagonists.

In Journey to the Center of the Earth, players follow the journey of the mineralogy professor Otto Lidenbrock and his nephew Axel, who uncover a 15th-century parchment by the alchemist Arne Saknussemm revealing how to reach the Earth’s core. Together with the hunter Hans, they begin their daring descent through Iceland’s Snæfellsjökull volcano. Players draw a route from an entrance volcano to the Earth’s center and then onward to one of the exit volcanoes. Each turn reveals two cards: a coordinate card and a tunnel card, which can represent straight paths, curves, water springs, discoveries, or dangerous creatures. The tunnel card is then placed on the specified coordinate, shaping the underground route. The game challenges players to manage their water supply carefully; when the tunnel deck runs out, a water point must be consumed to continue or face elimination. If the coordinate deck is depleted, one exit volcano erupts and becomes unusable. Throughout the adventure, players can seek help from the novel’s protagonists to adjust the rules and overcome obstacles.
