Description

Medico (engl.) is a strategy game for 2 to 4 players aged 12+ with a playing time of 60 to 90 minutes. Players take on the role of traveling barbers in medieval Europe, striving to gain knowledge and reputation as a Medicus by gathering remedies, delivering letters, researching recipes, and earning favor in cities. Strategic route planning and diverse actions determine the winner.

In medieval Europe, trained physicians were a rarity. Traveling barbers did their best to care for the health of the people, often dreaming of one day earning the knowledge and reputation of a true Medicus. In Medico, you take on the role of such barbers, journeying from city to city in pursuit of the skills needed to become a respected Medicus. Along the way, you gather rare remedies to sell at markets, deliver letters for the Church to earn favor with the clergy, and search monastic libraries for valuable healing recipes. In larger cities, you can acquire medical instruments, send your children to train at the bathhouse, or treat the city lord to gain his support. You may even have the chance to meet the renowned Medicus himself and receive his training. Each round, all players simultaneously and secretly choose one of seven locations to visit. On their turn, players reveal their destination and carry out a main action there. If planned carefully, you can also perform secondary actions at waypoints along your route. With only 8 or 9 rounds depending on the number of players, every decision matters. At the end of the game, players compare points earned across categories such as recipe books, instruments, and apprentices to determine who truly deserves the title of Medicus.
