When war erupted in Europe in 1914, the Ottoman Empire, following secret agreements, provided refuge to the fleeing German battleship Goeben, renamed Yavuz. After Britain refused to deliver newly ordered Turkish battleships, the Turko-German fleet bombarded Russian forts, marking the Ottoman Empire’s entry into World War One. Ottoman Sunset 2nd edition, designed by Darin Leviloff, is a standalone solitaire States of Siege™ game that focuses on World War One in the Near East from 1914 to 1918. Players take control of the Young Turks (the Committee of Union and Progress) as they struggle to preserve the Ottoman Empire amid the turmoil of the Great War. The game features large-scale operations, with each turn representing several weeks and each unit symbolizing one Allied front. Victory is achieved by surviving until the end of the war, avoiding military defeat and preventing the collapse of the nation’s will to fight.
