People Power (engl.)

Beschreibung

People Power: Insurgency in the Philippines, 1983-1986 is the eleventh volume in the acclaimed COIN series designed by Volko Ruhnke. Unlike most COIN games, which feature four factions, this installment focuses on three distinct groups. The first faction represents the Government, led by Ferdinand Marcos, his wife Imelda, and their political and military allies. The second faction consists of the Insurgents, divided into two blocs: the communist New People’s Army (NPA), aiming for a nationwide uprising among both urban and rural populations, and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), commonly known as the Moros, seeking an independent nation based on Islamic autonomy. The third faction is the non-violent Reformers, led by Corazon Aquino, who, after the tragic assassination of her husband, mobilized social justice efforts that profoundly transformed the Philippine political scene. People Power is an ideal entry point for newcomers to the COIN series or those introducing it to others. Designed for simplicity and faster play, it employs many fundamental COIN mechanics. The compact 22" x 17" map simplifies gameplay with only two terrain types—Cities and Countrysides—that combine rural areas with less habitable jungle and mountain regions. Despite its streamlined rules, the game still offers deep strategic challenges and the potential for intense player interaction. A notable new feature in People Power is the Key Personality mini-hand mechanic, which simulates the influence and effectiveness of various generals and political figures, adding a fresh layer of tactical decision-making.
