Description

Quicksand is a real-time cooperative game where players work together to deactivate the dangerous "Quicksand" trap, made of gears and sand timers. Success requires careful coordination—not just speed—to avoid triggering the trap. To begin, select one of the 20+ scenarios and arrange the gear tiles along the designated path, placing sand timers with varying amounts of sand on the first gears. Depending on the scenario, the path may include obstacles. Each gear has a color (orange, yellow, gray) and a shape (square, circle, crescent). Players start with a hand of three cards, each showing a color, a shape, or a sand timer. During the game, players take turns playing a card to advance sand timers and prevent them from running out. Playing a color or shape card flips all timers on matching gears, moving each one space forward if the next space is empty. Playing a sand timer card flips and advances any one timer, if possible. If no timers match the played card, nothing happens. When a sand timer runs out, it is flipped and set aside next to its gear. A sand timer card can be used to recover these timers by placing them back onto an empty gear space. However, if a timer runs out while set aside, the game is lost. If a timer reaches the last open space on the path, playing a matching card flips it again. Should it run out there, the game ends immediately with a loss. Victory is achieved if all sand timers fill the final gear tiles without triggering this final failure.
