Race for the Galaxy (engl.)

Beschreibung

Race for the Galaxy lets players build vast galactic civilizations by playing cards that represent worlds or technical and social developments. Each round, players secretly and simultaneously choose an action card corresponding to a phase of that round. These phases allow players to draw cards, play cards, add goods to worlds, or consume goods for victory point chips. Only the phases selected by players take place during the round, and while every player can participate in those phases, the ones who chose them receive a bonus. The game ends when a player’s tableau reaches twelve cards or when the pool of victory point chips is depleted. Players then add up the victory points on their cards plus any earned chips to determine the winner. The deck tells a story of galactic exploration and expansion. Each card depicts either a world to settle or a development to implement. Cards in your tableau represent your civilization’s achievements, while cards in your hand show your current options. Playing a card requires discarding others equal to its cost, representing sacrificed opportunities. Once in play, cards grant special powers and contribute victory points at game end. Many worlds produce goods that can be traded or consumed for additional points. During each round, you choose one action phase from settling worlds or developing technology, producing goods, consuming goods for points, or drawing new cards through exploration or trade. Only the selected phases happen, but all players participate, and selectors gain bonuses. Rounds continue until a player has twelve cards in their tableau or all victory point chips are claimed. The player with the highest total score wins. The 2018 second edition includes improvements for color blindness and features five revised cards from the original plus six new promotional homeworlds.
