Recall is a deep strategy game centered on engine building and exploration. Each player starts with one of fourteen unique tribes and one of eighteen distinctive gadgets, both shaping their strategy and options throughout the game. On their turn, players choose to either use a keycard to activate an action box or recall to generate resources and regain keycards. Activating a keycard triggers its abilities along with the effects of the selected action box, allowing actions such as populating the lands, moving followers, exploring new regions, and constructing workshops, vaults, or monuments. Players develop their tribes by acquiring new keycards, upgrading action boxes, and collecting ability stones and relics. A core element of the game involves exploring dig sites to uncover traces of ancient civilizations. These discoveries grant access to powerful abilities and gadgets from ancient tribes and offer valuable scoring opportunities. Three times during the game, players must choose between two paths, each granting an immediate bonus and enhancing one of the endgame scoring categories. An optional digital companion website allows players to archive their tribes after the game, making those tribes available as ancient civilizations in other players' games.
