In Ruins of Mars, players take on the roles of explorers striving to decipher Martian languages, learn and replicate their technologies, and collect hourglasses needed to activate special abilities. The ultimate goal is to gain prestige and win the game.
The game features a unique action selection mechanism where the benefits of each action depend on action tiles placed beneath that action's spot on the board. These tiles shift around the board each turn in a manner reminiscent of mancala, creating dynamic and strategic gameplay.
