Sekigahara 5th printing (engl.)

Beschreibung

The Battle of Sekigahara, fought in 1600 at a crucial crossroads in Japan, unified the nation under the Tokugawa family for over 250 years.

In Sekigahara, you take the role of either Ishida Mitsunari, protector of a child heir, or Tokugawa Ieyasu, Japan’s most powerful daimyo (feudal lord), as you re-contest this decisive conflict.

The campaign lasted just seven weeks, during which both sides hastily assembled armies and strategies from the forces their allies could provide. Loyalty was fragile—many daimyo were reluctant to fight, and some even switched sides in the midst of battle.

To conquer Japan, you must do more than simply field an army—you need to secure its loyalty. Carefully cultivate the allegiance of your allies and deploy them only when you are confident they will stand with you in combat. Battles are won not just by force, but by causing defections within your opponent’s ranks.

Sekigahara features unique mechanics that reflect this tense, loyalty-driven warfare:

• No dice are used.
• Cards represent loyalty and motivation; without a matching card, an army will not enter battle.
• Allegiance is shown through hand size, which changes each turn.
• Battles unfold as a series of deployments from concealed unit stacks, with hidden loyalty factors influencing outcomes. Loyalty Challenge cards introduce the possibility of defection during combat.

This block wargame captures the historical Japanese campaign of 1600 in around three hours. The seven-week conflict, fought along Japan’s two major highways and in scattered sieges and skirmishes, led to Tokugawa Ieyasu becoming Shogun and uniting Japan for 265 years.

Designed to deliver an authentic historical experience within intuitive gameplay, Sekigahara maintains a streamlined ruleset of just six pages despite its rich detail. Chance is represented by uncertainty and hidden information rather than luck, offering a thoughtful and tense strategic challenge.
