Storms in the East (engl.)

Description

Storms in the East: Finland-Romania 1944 combines two detailed historical wargames into one engaging experience. The first game focuses on the intense Battle of Tali-Ihantala in June 1944, one of the largest confrontations on Scandinavian soil. Soviet forces, ordered by Stalin to quickly overcome Finland and turn their attention to Operation Bagration, launched a fierce offensive against the fortified VKT-line. Despite initial slow progress aided by the 30th Guards army, they created a salient near Ihantala. Heavy casualties were inflicted on both sides, but the arrival of the Finnish armoured division and precise artillery fire shifted the momentum. A determined Finnish counter-attack, supported by German air power and last reserves, eventually halted the Soviet advance. The offensive was canceled, and negotiations began, saving Finland at a heavy cost. The second game shifts the focus to the Soviet advance through Romania and the fierce engagements in Transylvania. Soviet and Romanian forces faced stiff resistance from the Hungarian 2nd Army near Cluj and along the MureÅŸ River. Despite launching offensives of their own, the Hungarians struggled to contain the multiple Soviet and Romanian attacks. Even the 23rd Panzer Division found it difficult to stem the tide. Heavy losses forced Stavka to redirect Soviet efforts around Turda in mid-October. Players take on the roles of either the Soviet or Axis forces, striving either to break through decisively or to hold the line against relentless assaults.
