The Italians wars 1859 - 1866 (engl.) is a strategy game for 1 to 2 players aged 14+ with a playing time of 180 minutes. Experience the Italian campaigns of 1859 and 1866, exploring the struggle for independence and unity against Austria. The game uses the Gaiter Button system for fluid and realistic 19th-century European military operations.

The Italians Wars 1859 - 1866 recounts the lesser-known conflict led by the nephew of the famous French emperor, set during a crucial period of Italian unification. Unlike the campaigns of 1796 or 1800, this campaign carries a different historical and military context, marked by the fading revolutionary fervor and the material duty of a king to free his people from Austrian rule and guide them toward independence.

The action unfolds in the Po Valley, spanning from Turin to Verona through Milan, where mighty imperial forces seek to repel an invasion. Players must navigate natural barriers like rivers and overcome intense battles such as those at Magenta and Solferino. Meanwhile, the Austrian Empire fights to retain control over the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia.

The 1866 chapter tells the story of a young nation striving to consolidate its unity and reclaim its last territories from Austria. Despite unification challenges, the Austrian army achieves its most remarkable feat of the year, demonstrating that victory is not solely won through battlefield might.

Using the Gaiter Button system—an evolution inspired by the Marshals series and refined by player feedback—this game offers a fluid yet historically faithful simulation of mid-19th century European operational warfare. It invites players to experience these pivotal campaigns with depth and strategic challenge.
