The White Castle (engl.)

Beschreibung

The heron soars silently over the Himeji sky while the Daimio observes from atop the castle, watching his servants go about their duties. Gardeners tend the serene pond where koi carp swim, warriors stand vigilant on the walls, and courtiers gather at the gates, eager for an audience that brings them closer to the inner circle of the court. As night falls, lanterns are lit and the workers return to their clans. In The White Castle, players take control of one of these clans, striving to earn the most victory points. To succeed, they must skillfully accumulate influence at court, manage resources wisely, and deploy their workers at the right place and moment. Designed by Sheila Santos and Israel Cendrero—known as Llama Dice and creators of the acclaimed The Red Cathedral—this game invites players to leave behind Ivan the Terrible’s Moscow and step into the imposing fortress of Himeji Castle, where the Sakai clan’s banner flies under Daimio Sakai Tadakiyo’s command. This Euro-style game features mechanics of resource management, worker placement, and dice placement through three intense rounds. Players send clan members to tend the gardens, defend the castle, and climb the social ladder of the nobility, earning victory points through diverse paths by the game’s end. The central game board depicts Himeji Castle in all its grandeur, divided into several distinct zones. The largest area lies within the castle, featuring the Room of the Thousand Carpets, where courtiers strive to ascend socially and earn the Daimio's favor. The peaceful pond and gardens offer a space to relax and appreciate their beauty. Outside the castle walls, warriors patrol and stand guard, maintaining security. The three bridges area pools the three types of dice that players use to take actions. Lastly, each player’s personal domain tracks their resources and houses their worker reserve. With accessible rules and a carefully crafted theme, The White Castle is a versatile game suited to many different groups. True to Llama Dice’s reputation, its elegant, straightforward design disguises a rich strategic depth accessible to all players.
