Tianxia (engl.)

Beschreibung

Tianxia (engl.) is a strategy game for 1 to 4 players aged 14+ with a playing time of 60-120 minutes. Players lead noble families during the Warring States period, balancing governance, trade, and defense against nomadic invasions. Success depends on political influence, wealth, and military strength to earn prestige and win.

The Warring States period was a defining era in Chinese history, characterized by incessant warfare, major military and bureaucratic reforms, and the struggle for dominance among rival kingdoms. Set around 260 BCE, Tianxia takes players back to a time when seven warring states battled fiercely against each other and faced constant incursions from nomadic groups such as the Xiongnu threatening from the north. Despite earlier construction efforts dating back to the 8th century BCE, the final years of this period saw a surge in defensive projects, including the building of fortifications, watchtowers, and new stretches of the Great Wall. Before the unification by Qin, these efforts aimed to protect the borders and maintain stability. In Tianxia, players assume the roles of noble family leaders seeking prestige and favor from the rulers of the seven kingdoms. Across four rounds, they deploy Governors to various regions to strengthen rival ruling houses, trade goods with merchant ships along the Chinese coastlines to accumulate wealth and resources, and build defenses against nomadic invasions. Nomads steadily advance each round toward the borders, amassing forces that trigger battles involving all players once they reach the kingdoms' edges. To defend their interests, players train soldiers, erect walls and towers, and vie to prove their skills as governors, politicians, merchants, and protectors. The game culminates with the player who best balances these roles and earns the greatest prestige declared the winner.
