Tzolkin: The Mayan Calendar (engl.)

Description

Tzolkin: The Mayan Calendar (engl.) is a Kennerspiel for 2 to 4 players aged 13+ with a playing time of 90 minutes. Players become Mayan tribe leaders, using a unique rotating gear system representing the Tzolk’in calendar to plan actions and lead their clans to prosperity by pleasing the gods and managing resources over time.

The Maya civilization was renowned for its distinctive art, intricate architecture, advanced mathematics, and profound knowledge of astronomy. Central to their society was the Tzolk’in calendar—a 260-day cycle used to determine the optimal times for planting crops, building monuments, celebrating births, and tracking planetary movements. This calendar was the core of the Mayan life cycle. In Tzolkin: The Mayan Calendar, you take on the role of an ajaw, a leader of a Mayan tribe. Your goal is to earn the favor of the gods and guide your clan toward prosperity. The game’s centerpiece is the innovative Tzolk’in mechanism, a set of interconnected gears that rotate each round, representing the passage of time. This dynamic system encourages strategic planning: should you harvest your crops now or wait for greater rewards later? The rotating gears clearly display the flow of time, allowing you to time your actions carefully and anticipate future opportunities.
