Description

End of the Trail is a competitive card game where players take on the roles of prospectors during the California Gold Rush. Managing a hand of cards, players must use them strategically to prospect land, build poker hands, and acquire additional cards through auctions. Each card serves one of three purposes, corresponding to different phases of the game: prospecting land tiles to reveal potential gold claims, forming a strong poker hand to compete for additional land, and bidding in the auction to strengthen their deck for prospecting or poker. Prospecting involves risk and careful decision-making. Players reveal land tiles one by one, deciding whether to claim the current land or continue their search for a better deposit. If a newly revealed tile contains less gold than the previously seen one, the player must settle for the less valuable claim. At the end of each round, players select two cards used for prospecting to add to their stud poker hand. When the game concludes, players reveal their hands, and the best poker hand earns an extra claim by placing a fourth and final prospector’s tent. Finally, all gold values are revealed and totaled. The player with the highest total gold from their land claims is declared the winner.
