The game combines worker placement and a cube tower mechanic, emphasizing resource management and player interaction.

Factory 42 is set in the industrial steampunk world of Zanziar, where players take on the roles of Dwarven factory overseers managing a Marxist society’s workforce. The goal is to navigate a challenging production line by placing workers efficiently and using a cube tower mechanic to solve complex resource management puzzles. As foremen competing to fulfill government orders, players face continual obstacles such as bureaucratic delays, resource shortages, and penalties for unmet quotas. Success depends on improving tools, outmaneuvering rivals, and occasionally engaging in underhanded deals to keep the factory running smoothly. Managing both workers and commissars, players must balance strict factory regulations with the need to meet demanding production targets in a workforce shaped by ideology and rigid control. Factory 42 combines strategic worker placement with intense player interaction, creating a unique and thematic challenge for 2 to 5 players over approximately two hours.
