Labyrinth - War on Terror (engl.)

Beschreibung

2001 marked the end of the Cold War era with the United States as the sole superpower, a moment some referred to as “The End of History.” However, this period of relative calm was followed by growing tensions in the Middle East and South Asia, where an Islamic revival was taking place. Resentments fueled by US support for anti-Soviet regimes in the region soon ignited a new conflict against the West. In 1996, wealthy Saudi extremist Usama bin Ladin declared a holy war against America and escalated his campaign with high-profile terrorist attacks in 1998 and 2000. By 2001, al-Qaeda had launched even more devastating strikes within the US itself, aiming to spark a global Muslim uprising. Whether or not that uprising occurred, the Western response to the attacks on September 11th fundamentally changed international relations across the globe—from London to Jakarta and from Moscow to Dar es Salaam. Labyrinth immerses players in the complexities of Islamist jihad and the global war on terror. Its broad scope and accessible gameplay offer a dynamic experience with a wide range of event combinations reminiscent of Twilight Struggle. The game explores not only the US’s counterterrorism efforts but also the broader ideological and geopolitical struggles involving guerrilla warfare, regime change, democratization, and beyond.
