The Cold War, 1945 - 1989

Twilight Struggle - Deluxe edition (8th. Printing) (engl.) is an expert-level game for 2 players aged 13+ with a playing time of 180 minutes. It simulates the Cold War struggle between the Soviet Union and the United States from 1945 to 1989, featuring historical events, political intrigue, the Space Race, and nuclear tensions in a card-driven format.

In the aftermath of World War II, two superpowers emerged from the ruins of a devastated world: the United States and the Soviet Union. Twilight Struggle captures the intense geopolitical struggle between these nations, where battles are fought not with armies but through diplomacy, espionage, and ideological influence.

This two-player game spans the forty-five years from 1945 to 1989, tracing the deepening rivalry as each side vies to dominate the globe. Players navigate historical events—from the Arab-Israeli conflicts and the Vietnam War to the Cuban Missile Crisis—using a card-driven system that shapes the unfolding Cold War narrative.

Drawing on mechanics from classic card-driven games like We the People and Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage, Twilight Struggle offers accessible gameplay with rich strategic depth. Key features include managing the Space Race and handling escalating nuclear tensions, where the very possibility of nuclear war can abruptly end the conflict.
