Description

Sixty years of tense, uneasy peace are shattered as the Korean Peninsula erupts into renewed warfare. A historically, ethnically, and culturally unified people, divided and polarized by superpower politics and economics, now commit men, weapons, and material to fierce modern combat in an effort to resolve their arbitrary division once and for all. From Pyongyang in North Korea to Busan in the South, the conflict rages on. Reminiscent of the first assault by the In Min Gun in 1950, the North Korean People’s Army crosses the Demilitarized Zone and pushes deep into South Korea. Special Operations Forces from both sides conduct raids, interdiction, and reconnaissance missions behind enemy lines. Airborne, air assault, and amphibious units strike far behind front lines, attempting to outflank main forces. A heated campaign unfolds in the skies above as each side vies for air superiority. Rugged terrain combined with the full might of modern armor, airmobile, airborne, and marine capabilities creates no safe havens in the deadly cauldron of battle engulfing the peninsula. While North and South seek a swift, decisive victory, the world watches for the responses of regional superpowers: the United States and the People’s Republic of China. How will the U.S., shaken by heavy casualties among the 2nd Infantry Division near the DMZ during initial assaults, reinforce the South—and with what strength? Will China intervene or pre-emptively join the conflict, potentially expanding the war? As the situation evolves, key decisions shape the commitments of forces, with the security of Japan and the future of both Koreas hanging in the balance. Next War: Korea, the first in a planned series of Next War games, simulates this near-future war on the Korean Peninsula. This updated and improved edition of Crisis: Korea 1995 offers players access to virtually all military assets of North and South Korea, along with significant forces from the USA and China. Its integrated, easy-to-learn air-land combat system models unit efficiency, armor effects, light infantry, attack helicopters, Close Air Support, Cruise Missiles, and the challenging Korean terrain. Next War: Korea is not an introductory wargame. It is designed to provide detailed study of modern warfare alongside engaging gameplay. The Standard Game rules offer a straightforward, accessible system—considered relatively easy to learn by experienced wargamers—allowing for quicker games when desired. The Advanced Game provides deeper control over airpower and reveals each side’s strengths and vulnerabilities, delivering a richer, more nuanced experience. Players seeking a "mini-monster game" will find the Advanced Campaign Scenarios with optional rules especially rewarding. Offering scalable complexity and varied gameplay, Next War: Korea supports fast two-player matches, extended monster games, or in-depth solitaire studies. Additionally, a Vassal module is under development to enable online play, allowing the game to be enjoyed in real-time or over longer periods via the internet.
