Description

Land vs Sea ist ein Familienspiel. Die Spieler treten als Land oder Meer an und legen abwechselnd doppelseitige Hex-Kacheln, um eine gemeinsame Karte zu gestalten. Ziel ist es, Land- oder Meeresgebiete zu vervollständigen und Punkte zu sammeln. Das Spiel verbindet taktisches Legen mit strategischem Gebietsausbau.

Part puzzle, part strategy game, Land vs Sea allows players to take on the roles of Land or Sea — or the Cartographer in a three-player game. Each player manages two double-sided hex tiles featuring various land and sea shapes, placing one tile per turn to collectively build a map. The Land player aims to complete land areas, while the Sea player works to complete sea areas. Completing an area scores one point per tile for the respective side. Some tiles offer bonus points for the player who finishes the area they belong to, creating strategic choices: players may even complete an opponent's area to claim these extras. Special tiles can grant an additional turn or allow a player to steal a tile from another (except their last one). Since each tile has one side visible and the other hidden until played, the game blends partial information with surprising twists. Players keep their hands topped up to two tiles, choosing from two face-up stacks, which adds a layer of tactical decision-making. Success depends on careful tile placement to maximize scoring across land or sea areas while limiting rivals’ scoring chances. Watching opponents’ moves closely and using Play Again or Steal tiles thoughtfully can shift the game's momentum. Bonus points on both players’ areas and smart tile selection during replenishment further enrich the strategic depth. The game ends when the last tile is placed, with the highest scorer declared the winner. After mastering the basic game, players can unlock additional scoring layers for more complexity:

• Mountain & Coral scoring: score for connected chains of Mountain (Land) or Coral (Sea) sections.
• Caravan & Ship scoring: score points for Caravans and Ships added to Trade Routes on the map, and at game’s end, each player scores majority ownership of Trade Routes (more Caravans favor Land, more Ships favor Sea).
• Waypoints: bonus points placed on the map to encourage cooperation or benefit individual players.

Land vs Sea supports 2, 3, and 4 player modes. Two players face off head-to-head, while four players can form teams using basic or expanded rules. In four-player games, Waypoints help prevent excessive coordination between teammates. The challenging three-player mode uses all advanced scoring options in an asymmetric contest where the Cartographer competes by connecting Mountain and Coral sections, alongside all players vying for bonus points and Trade Route control.
