Timespan is a streamlined and engaging civilization game that offers a rich variety of gameplay without combat. Players choose one of six asymmetric civilizations and combine it with one of six unique technology boards. Further customization comes from recruiting among 175 historical figures, buildings, technologies, and wonders. The game progresses through five rounds, each divided into an exploration phase and an action phase. During exploration, players draft cards and discovery tiles from the current age, then move their camels to visit other players’ wonders for special effects and rewards. In the action phase, players simultaneously play up to four cards on their civilization board’s timeline. As new cards are added, older cards move into the player’s heritage, where they continue to provide ongoing benefits. Workers are used to activate cards in the timeline, action boxes, and wonders, generating resources and progress on the culture, science, ship, flight, and space tracks. Advancing on these tracks unlocks new abilities, technologies, and access to rare luxury resources, which can improve cards’ effects and grant permanent passive income when moved into heritage. After the second and fourth rounds, a new age begins, introducing fresh cards and discovery tiles to shape your civilization’s path from the stone age to the space age in about 90 minutes.
