Battle of White Plains (engl.)

Beschreibung

Battle of White Plains (engl.) is an expert game for 1 to 2 players aged 14+ with a playing time of 120 to 480 minutes. Players command Washington and Howe in a detailed simulation of the 1776 Battle of White Plains, featuring three scenarios, historical and hypothetical, with unique rules and opportunity cards that add strategic depth and historical flavor.

Most accounts mention the Battle of White Plains only briefly in the context of the 1776 New York Campaign. As the campaign’s final field battle, it warrants a more detailed exploration. Volume X in GMT’s acclaimed Battles of the American Revolution series, designed by Mark Miklos, offers an in-depth simulation of this pivotal encounter.

The game features three scenarios: the historical battle for Chatterton Hill, an alternate October 31 scenario imagining if Howe had launched his planned major assault that day, and a comprehensive four-day campaign. This campaign spans 42 game turns, beginning with the British army’s arrival on October 28 and concluding at 5:00 pm on October 31.

Players each command 26 Opportunity Cards divided into three decks that introduce variability and historical flavor. Special rules unique to this battle add depth, including American sortie limitations, tactical doctrines, rain turns, morale restoration, scorched earth tactics, handicaps for American militia, fieldwork construction, and an off-board movement system representing Tarrytown on the Hudson River—seven miles away where British ships are anchored. Even Washington’s combat effectiveness at this early stage of the war is subject to randomization.

In this volume, players lead two formidable armies: Washington’s forces, struggling to salvage the defense of New York, and Howe’s troops, aiming to deliver a decisive blow to end the rebellion. Over four challenging days and through adverse weather conditions, generals must carefully manage their forces. As General Howe, can you break the American lines and bring the conflict to a swift close? As General Washington, can you hold the advantageous ground despite fielding nearly half your army as less reliable militia?
